The Green Bay Packers are in need of a respectable backup quarterback and Anthony Richardson could be the perfect fit. Richardson, who was drafted fourth overall in 2023, has not had the opportunity to develop with the Indianapolis Colts and is in need of a fresh start. The Packers, led by head coach Matt LaFleur, have a history of developing quarterbacks, which could be beneficial for Richardson. With Jordan Love's injury history, the Packers need a reliable backup, and Richardson could provide that. The Colts, on the other hand, are looking to move on from Richardson and are considering trade offers. The Packers have to think about the trade for a couple of reasons, they need a respectable backup behind Jordan Love and Richardson needs a team that will believe in him. The Packers have shown they can develop quarterbacks, as seen with the development of Malik Willis, who signed for nearly $70 million this offseason after throwing less than 90 passes and having over 900 passing yards and six touchdown passes in 11 games in Green Bay. Richardson doesn't just need a team that will believe in him, he needs a fresh start where he doesn't have any baggage or any pressure to immediately be the guy. The Colts used a first-round pick on Richardson, but they can't play hardball in any deal that involves him, trying to recoup his value back. Richardson's production to this point doesn't yield a top 100 selection, and the Colts should accept a fourth-round pick from the Packers. Retaining Richardson right now doesn't do the Colts any good, especially because they probably aren't going to take his fifth-year option. Getting anything they can from Richardson is better than letting him hit the open market for free. The trade would be beneficial for both teams, as the Packers would get a quarterback with potential and the Colts would get something in return for Richardson. The Packers should offer a fourth-round pick to the Colts, which would be a fair trade for both teams. This trade would finally give Anthony Richardson a fresh start and provide the Packers with a respectable backup quarterback.
