The Green Bay Packers are exploring a trade for Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith to shore up their depleted edge group.
NFL analyst Moe Moton of Bleacher Report floated a deal sending Highsmith to Green Bay in exchange for a Day 2 2027 draft pick. Moton argues the Packers can address a clear roster hole while reworking Highsmith’s contract. The Steelers edge-rusher has no guaranteed money left in the final two years of his deal, and Green Bay sits with $23.4 million in cap space.
Highsmith racked up 9.5 sacks, 36 solo tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 19 QB hits last season. The Packers’ defense figures to struggle early in 2026 after Micah Parsons tore his ACL in Week 15 and underwent meniscus surgery on December 29. A nine-month recovery timeline keeps Parsons sidelined until at least September 29.
Highsmith brings 45 career sacks, 212 solo tackles, 64 tackles for loss and 91 QB hits. He’s spent his entire six-year career with Pittsburgh. The Packers finished 7th in the National Football Conference last year with a 9-7-1 record and a four-game losing streak.
Green Bay’s front office could act before the regular season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on September 13. Parsons made the Pro Bowl last year despite the injury, posting 12.5 sacks, 19 solo tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 27 QB hits in 14 games. Highsmith’s arrival would give the Packers a proven edge presence while they wait for Parsons to return.
